Silver Mountain Resort – Finding Gold in the Panhandle

Looking up at Wardner Peak from the 20 minute gondola ride.

Like so many others, we are happy to see 2020 in the rear view mirror. Just like we saw Washington State this past New Year’s Eve, as we rolled into the Panhandle of Idaho to ring it in with live music. Our mission was accomplished at Sandpoint’s “Idaho Club“. The excellent music was provided by the Miah Kohal Band, which was a real treat, not dancing to live music since last March. After ringing in the New Year and spending time with 7B family and friends, we decided to check out Silver Mountain Resort, for the first time ever.

Still in celebration mode, we found ourselves rolling into the Silver Mountain parking lot just before 9AM, only to be shocked by the massive Disney Land style line for the gondola (which is a 20 minute ride up to the snow/skiing. We quickly found a parking space in the almost full lot, then realized how small the parking lot was vs. the mountain. The next shocker was how much untracked snow we found in the 11AM hour. This trip was without a mountain guide to show us the path to untracked, but after a handful of laps we figured it out. Making us want to get back there ASAP with a small posse equip with skis and guitars!

At the end of the day we realized there was a lineup to take the gondola back down to the base area. So, instead of standing in line, we chose to mingle with the super nice locs in the bar above the gondola house sippin’ a NW IPA.
