Here’s a super fresh look at the conditions found up at the Mighty Mt. Baker ski area from yesterday (11/4/17), seen through the lens of our Alex Ropka and his father, Ben. As you can see things are looking pretty good up and down the Cascade Crest!

Another fresh edit from Carl Simpson, skiing yesterday @ Chinook (10/22/17), at Crystal(10/21/17). All this good early season happened just prior to the spike in the weather, that unleashed some serious precipitation. Chinook Pass received apx 4″ of rain last night between 8PM-12AM!!

Alex had mentioned, “there were a couple sharks here and there but for the most part a pretty solid base with 2-3 feet of low density powder. Pretty low vis for the most part, tried to hug the tree lines.”

below is a short recap of their day…

Snoqualmie Pass… Almost enough, and it is currently snowing (12PM on 10/21/17)!!! 🙂

My Homie, Jerad Merbs, and myself took a long, tough walk last Sunday (10/15/17) to hit a little snow in “Know Snow”. This adventure happened because I talked Jerad out of the long drive to Rainier, the day prior (which you can see on yesterday’s post of Carl, Jeff, Hugh, and Tim killing it). Even though the day was a little tougher than I had anticipated, it was a fantastic day to be close to home with an awesome friend! Live to ski another day, and think BIG SNOW!!!

Below is a short video of our 1st ski on the Pass this season.

Here’s a fresh edit Carl Simpson put together of their trip to Rainier, Last Saturday (10/14/17). This was the target Jerad Merbs wanted us to hit that day, and I knew he was correct by the short video below.

Andy Traslin sent this mashup from last year, featuring of a bunch of powda dayz in Kelowna, BC, Canada. The playground was “East Peak backcountry”. According to wikipedia, “The ski resort is expected to unveil plans in the near future that call for the addition of 2,000 acres (8.1 km2) of skiable area on the East Peak. This new area will be mainly intermediate and advanced terrain and the expansion will be on land leased from the province.”

Also included in the plans are a second base area, a new residential area and a golf course.

The red line shows our ski on Paradise Glacier.

From Corn to powder the end of summer has meant high quality skiing on the glaciers of Mt Baker! Snow Trooper Andrew Eckels got out several times this fall and found corn, powder, and some stuff in between!

Corey, doing what his does best… Floating  and pouncing like a big mountain cat!!!

Super stoked to share the excellent video, by “Yeah Bud Productions”, featuring Alpental loc, Corey Nugent!!!

I was blessed a couple of times to see this very talented and humble, young man make Alpental look like a super easy place to skip and float around. Corey is truly a “real skier” always there and getting after it like a boss. He has also taken interest in ski mountaineering, which is where most of our true love lies. Live to ski another day, and be sure to click play on Corey’s badass season edit!!

Our friends, Andy & Mike Traslin, from North Vancouver, BC, just hit 132 months of continuous skiing! I met these brothers years ago at the Alpental Vertfest, where two of them crushed the field of athletes for many years. Since then we’ve managed to get out together, every now and then, keeping the Turns-All-Year alive! Their 132nd month happened this past August up at the Mt. Baker Ski Area, so he’ll be working on 134 this month… Where to go, is the question??? Think snow everyone, so we can all ski locally! 🙂

The red line shows our ski on Paradise Glacier.

Last Thursday (9/28/17), I made the apx 3 hour drive to the Paradise parking, where I was planning to make a solo trek up to the Paradise Glacier. The day was perfect, providing full “on” sun along with a 5-10 mph breeze. Just above Pan Point, I met a new friend, Sean O’Neil, who was also walking up the mountain with boots and skis on his back. After chatting for a minute, I invited Sean to join me for a ski on Paradise. We skied from just below Anvil Rock to the Toe of Paradise Glacier, then decided to climb back out for a little more skiing on the Muir Snowfield.

Below is a short video of our sweet day, this past Thursday 🙂
