Great views with great people!

This Snow Trooper hasn’t skied a whole lot this past month of May, 2019, but I’m Happy Merbs, Luis and TNT squeezed in a couple of “Late May Dayz” this past week. I better get a day in quickly as it is going fast. The MTBs are out and we are shifting gears… Slowly.

If you live on the Westside and want a sunny hike or run while it’s raining in the Puget Sound, head for this beautiful trail.

We have always seen fantastic photos of this race by Glenn Tachiyama, and this year TNT skipped the 4/20 ski at Alpental for a little 4/20 High Desert Fun. This is a tough one as I’ve been told the legs were quite sore the next few days, and TNT only ran 10-15 miles in film mode. Our good running buddy from Louisiana (who has multiple 100 mile race buckles), wanted to test herself in the mountains for a 50K and found this run to be tough, especially with the short cut-off times. Next year, we’ll all might have to try to complete this brutal run, with super steep climbs and descents (I’ll focus on the 25k ๐Ÿ™‚ ).

Great views with great people!

On April 19th, 2019, we received a little Spring surprise along with the Back Bowls of Alpental being open. Jerad and I were a little late to the High Gate opening, but we were very surprised to get first tracks down Big Trees and hour after the rope dropped? Great day out with some of my favorite people!

The Roxa Rx 1.0

This is a fun one from around this past March 15th, 2019. All seen through the hc lens of Andrew Eckels, playing off Highway 542 (in the Mighty Mt. Baker zone). Hoping we get another blast of pow, before it all passes, as the mountains are melting out quickly. Think a little more powder dayz! ๐Ÿ™‚

The Roxa Rx 1.0

Spent a few days in the low angle trees of Snoqualmie Pass with HanSolo. It was cold and quiet.

Looking towards Mt. Catherine aka Hyak bc ๐Ÿ™‚

With all of the snow that fell from the massive Snowmageddon 2018, along with the Colorado type, super cold temps, I thought a trip into the trees were necessary. I rode the East Peak Chair Lift for a bump start (Sun, 2/24/19), then skied down Milwaukee Ridge to connect with the criss cross network. Hitting Union Station, for an easy crossing over Mill Creek (which can be tough at times). I climb up under the North Face in the lower trees, doing a little yo-yo skiing, with a finish in the lower bowl (you see from the Hidden Valley Chair). Punched out through the young growth and found a crossing made easier by two others – an hour or so earlier. Thanks for finding the easy way, guys!

Jerad blasting through the Ewok Forest.

The first day of lift served skiing at The Little Beast from the East – Summit East, following Snowmageddon 2018, Jerad Merbs, Tyler Powers and TNT jumped on the light cycles :-). To search for un-tracked pow. It was a toss up to hit the Hidden Valley or go search in the trees. I think they made the right choice as the beginner ski skinners pretty much rocked out all open slopes. So stoked to see the sport growing so much! Live to Ski Another Day!

Finding the goods off Windy Ridge.

Nearing the end of Snowmageddon 2018 on Snoqualmie Pass, we decided to hit the “Closed” I-90 to get some lift served skiing at Mission Ridge. On Valentines Day (Mon, 2/14/19), we got the sweetest treat – waist deep, champagne powder and the lifts were spinning at Summit Central. However, the following day, we received 31 inches in 24 hours, which shut us down completely. This included power, too! Thank goodness, Dru Bru has a generator and the community gathered to compare notes and use the wifi.

Allison and myself rolled out at 7pm ish, and got on the completely quiet interstate 90. We didn’t see one single vehicle of any kind, until Cle Elum. Then only seeing 3 from there to the junction of Hwy 97 and Hwy 2. Wild! The following morning we hit the second of the two day ski demo, Mission Ridge was holding for the WSSRA. As you will see from the video below we had great weather and the end result was a kick-ass time! Thanks Mission Ridge (one of the 7 Gems that make up our Cascade Crown of ski areas).

Dru Bru-Ski day!.

TNT Ran in for a quick beer at Dru Bru (Tues, 2/5/18), then quickly found himself tracking down the Dru Bru Crew (minus Tim, who was keeping the ship a float), to join in some sun and fun. ๐Ÿ™‚ I soon found everyone by the fire pit on Summit Central’s plaza, then did some shredding (on the somewhat firm conditons).

Juicing the pow to the base of the Little Beast.

Just a quick walk with the pups to get some exercise and ski a little pow. By the time they made it up, Roz’s Run was banged out, from the popular sport of ski skinnin’, but still fun. However, on the following lap, off East Peak, TNT found the freshies!
