June 29, 2010 wanted a good workout more than a ski (but did want some turns). We headed for Snoqualmie Mountain. At this time of the year we walked on dirt until just below the Cave Ridge zone. Grabbed Melisa’s gear she had stashed from Sundays’ summit and continued up the super steep Summer trail. About 3/4 up towards summit w/ got on the snow then skinned towards the false summit for the best ski.

Below is an edit Scott Harder did on last Friday’s trip to the gym before work. Here is what Scott had to say in regards to the day:

Scott & T.N.T hit Silver Peak on the wee hours of a Friday morning. After leaving the trailhead @ 5:15, we arrived at the summit @ 6:45, made our descent and harvested some great corn & potatoes with only a short walk out to the car. Scott arrived at work in Bellevue @ 8:45. Win.

June 13th, 2010 brought me back up to Windy Pass, WA just 4 miles from the home base. Instead of the norm on Silver Peak today I would traverse around the East side on the PCT to go for The Tinkham Chute. Traveling from Windy Pass you would hit good swaths of snow on the steep slopes of Silver above Twin Lakes, wanting your ice axe for added comfort. I was able to skin the last 1/4 mile to Silver Ponds, where I put the skis back on the pack and started the boot up. At the bottom of the chute I scaled the slope at 49 degrees, however 5 steps or so above that spot the snow was much closer to my face. The snow was sun cupped but soft and perfect for boot packing not to mention great for some nice steep June turns on a partly cloudy day. Once on top of the chute made a quick change over and had Trooper go down first nice and easy. Dropped in and got to say it was quite the good rush even for all the beatin’ brush.

June 12th, 2010 brought us not far from home on Snoquaimie Pass to ski the Annette Lake Run. I was able to park almost at windy Pass about 15 to 20 cars from the snow. Awesome sunny day and a lot of folks making the best of Silver Peak’s fantastic late season snow pack. Getting a late start we ran into a few skiers on the way out with big smiles then got to say hello to Silas and his “Wild” group on their last ski towards the cars. We walked up the Silver Cirque towards the Summit to take a look at the West Face under the Summit towards Annette lake. Notice a group skinning back up and said they stopped at the tree line because of coverage. The West face not yielding the ski we were looking for on this trip we headed back down and skied the the Annette Lake Run but stayed skiers right towards the bottom to maximize our vert. We made it about 150-200 feet above the lake giving us a 1,500 vertical foot ski w/ a sustained slope in the neighborhood of 40 degrees the whole way down. SWEET until the long steep ski skin out. The reward at the top of the ridge was meeting a few new “friends of the mountains” that we reflected on ski memories just before the final 900 ft reward of good skiing to the rock shelter.

Trip out to Silver Peak on June 8th,2010 only to find 2 groups of friends and good remaining snow pack. The snow has just started to sun cup giving a better ski than previous days. Ran into Silas Wild, Grego and Eric from Marmot Mountain works (which might I add is an excellent place to score great deals and superb outdoor advice if you are living in the Puget Sound area, if not find them online). Silas’s group was Lapping the nice long 40 degree face down to Annette Lake, Twice!!! Then ran into JD and Tom Davies and skied part way out w/ them and meeting at the cars for a beer and reflections. Another good day in the Cascades!

Here is a good one Robert Jarlenas sent over to share from Funäsdalen, Sweden. The filming by Robert, Ludvig Crabber, Alex Sverin and Hans Areskoug. Edited by Robert & Ludvig. Below is what he had to say:

This easter I went to ski some park for the first time in over a year, it was fun and I learned a lot of new stuff. Not much footy of me though but I’m very satisfied anyway and hope to bring some of my new tricks to the big mountains next year. Maybe not the kind of skiing that usually is posted here but I think the edit is pretty funny.

And yeah, very not serious

supermegaawesome easter edit from Robert Jarlenäs on Vimeo.
