Week 5 didn’t bring much snow to mention here in the NW, so we chose to stay close to the home mountain and work on the ski skills while we waited for a good dose of snow.

Ice Station Zebra – The Northwest mountains all locked up frozen like. The Snow Troopers from Snoqualmie Pass all made the best of it by finding low angle runs to handle the frozen granular as well as the dust on crust that finally fell Dec. 6th. Good time to work on the ski skills off the lifts on some fresh groomers.

Sting down in CO. Snow fell on final day of the Birds of Prey World Cup races in Beaver Creek. GS was the last event. Check out the photos.

Start training for Alpental’s annual Vert Fest happening March 6th, 2009. Vert Fest is a celebration of the backcountry culture which happens to include a physically demanding randonnee race for Rec and Pro divisions alike the difference being they double the pain for the Pros by adding a lap up and down the expert only terrain of Alpental’s slackcountry.  More details coming soon, just start training! If you have not seen or hear of a Randonnee race be sure to check the vid below of last year’s AlpentalVert Fest 09.

Week 2 of The Mountain Snow Adventures was spent riding the lifts of Summit West for fresh POW including a little micro slackcountry. Some might giggle about that, but check it first!

Snow started falling earlier than expected in the Cascade so Crystal Mountain pulled the Trigger opening first for the public, Then a stop at Steven’s Pass for a little ski touring. Day 3 off to Mt. Baker Ski Area for some lift serve and of course a little Randonnee Play up past Austin Pass. Day 4 and 5 back at Snoqualmie Pass for the Summit at Snoqualmie’s opening of Summit West. Good Time & GAME ON!!!

Wanting to Keep the “Turns All Year” spirit alive I met up w/ G3 Team Rider Met Mike Traslin in Glacier and made our way on the newly RE-constructed fs road to the TH. The brisk morning made for a quick get to edge of the timber. Made our way over the bare rock section which was covered w/ a combo of ice and graupel. Not as much new snow as we had expected but a good ski none the less for October. Bring your ski crampons if you have them.
