The 2014 “Access the Goods” skis by H2O Outdoor Gear are looking super sweet and I can tell you first hand, they ski even better! The first time I met the owner/operator of H2O Outdoor Gear & H2O Guides, Dean Cummings, I listened to him speak for quite a while about the new ski designs everyone has been toying with in the recent years, like early rise, rocker, reverse sidecut, etc… A few days later at the Ski Industry “On Snow Demo”, I found everything Dean had mentioned to be spot on! Then was blown away again by Dean, when I rode his boards, learning his skis are WELL designed, as I laid huge GS tuns on a Colorado hard pack day, with 133mm “Access the Goods” underfoot (and ZERO high speed chatter, which was the main problem with a large number of other mfr’s powder models). Knowing that almost every FAT board I have ridden on a powder day has been fun, has made me think I could mount a pair of 2 x 8 douglas fir studs and still have fun in the deep. However in the real “ski area” side country world, the powder fun is often followed by a skied-out, boney, hard pack chute. Having been in the nasty run outs myself on many days, I find one of the most important things of a GREAT powder board is not only the action in the POW, but also the ability to CARVE the hard pack! “Access the Goods” skis are the real deal, designed by Dean Cummings, former U.S. Freestyle Ski Team Captain, 1995 World Extreme Skiing Champion, and Alaskan helicopter skiing pioneer. This partial list of Dean’s accomplishments are a lot more than titles to me, I’d have to say they are also his life long ski research and development projects, that go into each and everyone of his ski designs. I also wanted to mention a brand new member to the “Access the Goods” family, the “Terrain Feature”. H2O Outdoor Gear noted that the “Terrain Feature” is a full wood core, fully symmetrical twin tip PARK & PIPE ski. Using traditional camber, the “Terrain Feature” is a very versatile ski form rails, to jumps, to the pipe.
