This past July 10th, Jacob Mandell, Donnelly Miller, and Andrew Eckels headed up to ski Mt. Rainier’s Sunrise zone. Below is what Andrew had to say about their day:

Jacob and I met Donnelly at the Sunrise parking lot at 7, intending to ski the Sourdough chutes. What we found was not what I had imagined, so we set out in search of a longer ski.

As we hiked towards Rainier, few attractive options appeared. Ultimately we decided to drop into Glacier Basin. We scoped the one line that went all the way down, but one had to do a short 30ish degree loose class three scramble to get to it. We climbed down, and proceeded to reap awesome July turns. Before dropping in we scoped a nice line on the right side of Glacier Basin. After refueling at the creek we climbed to the top of the line. It was five o clock when we dropped in, but the chute was protected by two rock walls, and held awesome corn! Once back at Glacier Basin we decided to hike back to White River Campground, and hitch a ride to Sunrise from there. We found a ride easily, and then celebrated a great trip with burgers in Greenwater. I walked through Glacier Basin on the 16th after climbing Rainier and there are still a some really good chutes to ski and only three miles of trail.
