Headed next to Zurserhof Hotel where I met up with Franz Weber, Franz Klammer and friends to ski Zurs and Lech – part of the Weisse (white) Ring which defines the course for the world’s longest race (video below).  It was an amazing bluebird day with endless views of the Arlberg region.  Zurs and Lech are connected by 85 lifts – many of the new ones retrofitted with seat heaters that are triggered as they enter the lift station. They also have an 8 person lift (and actually can manage to keep people together – come to think of it, I don’t think I saw any lifts stopping in Austria).  Continued ski instruction from the best – by now, I’m carving my turns like an average Austrian. You should check out the video in below’s Feb. 4th post to see how it’s really done – as demonstrated by Franz Klammer himself.  He makes it look so easy.  Everywhere we went, Franz graciously stopped for pictures and autographs for fans.  We stopped at the Burg Hotel, a hot spot for lunch in Oberlech (on the way down to Lech). See our pix from that day here. Franz is sporting the latest Habervision goggles with built in fan – nice.  I’ll end this post with helmet cam video from Der Weisse Ring race so you can see Lech Zurs on a bluebird day.
