Final day in Austria skiing with Franz Weber and Ingrid Salvenmoser. Franz is an Olympian, 6-time consecutive World Speed Skiing Champion and former world record-holder – see video below going over 140 MPH. He still holds the North American record which he set in ‘82 in Silverton, CO. Ingrid raced with the Austrian World Cup team for 17yrs, placing 6 times in the top 3 in slalom and winning a bronze medal at the Alpine World Ski Championships in ‘91. She has her own ski school in Sheffau, Austria now so needless to say, we got top notch instruction today as we skied from Zurs to St. Anton. A major storm moved in after lunch so we had limited visibility (St. Anton is above treeline) and high winds. Still, we had our best day with powder just about everywhere. We ended the day skiing to Mooserwirt, meeting up with ex-Austrian racer, Kilian Albrecht, and experiencing the apres ski scene that St. Anton’s famous for. They weren’t kidding. Take a look at the pix - wish we had something like this on our mountains. I’ll have to admit, it wasn’t easy skiing out in the dark after so many drinks but at least we laughed the whole way down.
