Take 5 mins of your day and check this of our friends from North of the border, Mike and Andy Traslin, hitting the HUGE terrain of Mt. Fitzsimmons. Hope to see the Traslin bros down here for Alpental’s Vert Fest this March 6th pushing their bodies to the limit. Below is what Mike had to say :
It is like doing half the Spearhead backwards to get to the ski climb descent first skied by Eric Pehota and Trevor Petersson 1992. The majority of people ski from the col which is fine! But to do it in clean style from the summit the old school way is the best style, or more profound!
The Team: Andy Traslin, Mike Traslin, Sky Sjue now in Vancouver but he is one of your boys, Louie Dawson from Aspen now living in Bellingham going to university -only 19- he is actually Lou Dawson’s boy I just figured out. Thomas Brunner from Germany who had to turn around early because of the sick pace set by Sky and Andy: four hours to the top of Mt Fits from the top of Whistler! Good guy! And the last young buck from Alaska, John Schleder who worked as a Park ranger for Mt Mckinley. Thomas also skied 9 hours the day before so I give him huge credit for playing smart.
Conditions: basically we had to hammer to beat the weather, the ski route is 60 to a sustained 55 degree sustained pitch, it was hard to see in the flat light! We skied the route conservative as there was a huge amount of wind loading the slope, we made sure not to hit any sweet spots. Snow was pretty good on the summit, the face was edgeable wind blown snow. We skied to two islands of safety….
Duration just over 10 hours and thirty minutes!
Carried full packs ropes, crampons glacier kit, but did not use!
