Spent 2 days ski touring in Holzgau – Pepi Strobl’s hometown. Holzgau is located in a valley surrounded by mountains with alpine and xc skiing every which way you look. Pepi’s family owns and operates Strobl Sports which sells/rents alpine, touring and xc gear. The main shop is in town but there’s also a shop on the mountain. Ski touring is very popular in Austria. We did an easy hike up one of the local Lechtal mountains. Pepi set a nice, slow pace for me — much appreciated after xc skating almost 20km the day before. Check out the pix and if you’re in the area, make sure to visit and stay with the Strobl family (they have a guest house next door with nice apartments for 40euro/day).
